The friendly market town of Llanidloes with its cafes, pubs and interesting shops is just 2 miles away. It has a Leisure Centre (01686 412871) with squash courts, swimming pool, tennis, table tennis, basketball and a good range of classes and activities. There is a free skateboard park next to the children’s playground at the riverside park.
The 600 acre Llyn Clywedog Lake is only 3 miles from Garth Farm. Permits and boats for fly fishing are available for hire (01686 412263). The Llanidloes and District Angling Association run fly tying, casting and fishing lessons throughout the season. The Clywedog Sailing Club (CSC) operates on another part of the lake. Training is available for canoeing, kayaking, and sailing (RYA) and courses can normally be arranged with Staylittle Outdoor Pursuits Centre to suit your group, whether you are complete beginners, experienced or a mixed ability group. The centre also provides abseiling, orienteering and mountain biking opportunities.
Walking - Hafod and Ty Nant Barns are set in glorious countryside. Some of the best walking country is on your doorstep. There is an interesting Farm Trail taking in the Hill, the 5 acre Oak Wood and the Dingle with its fast flowing rocky stream. You are welcome to explore the 240 acres of Garth Farm including the Wildlife Pools and our much larger pool complete with little rowing boat.
From the farm you can follow numerous local footpaths and bridleways or you can join Glyndwr’s Way National Trail or the challenging 25 mile Sarn Sabrina circular walk taking in the Source of the Severn and the Hafren Forest. There are, of course, many shorter interesting walks following streams, through woods or to the tops of mountains!
The Yamaha Off Road Experience is a professional Off Road Motorcycling School providing coaching and fun days out in spectacular countryside. You can take your own bike, or if you prefer, new Yamaha bikes and all the necessary kit can be provided. Mid Wales Shooting Centre (01686 430654) is just beyond the nearby village of Trefeglwys. It has become one of the premier clay target shooting grounds in the UK, hosting World, British, English and Welsh Championships. There are expert instructors on hand to ensure you have a great time.
